Secret History: ancient and modern polyphony for voices & lutes

The programme is an unconventional approach to early music; it contains motets and masses but they are performed in completely new arrangements for two voices and two vihuelas. Although such an approach to a capella music was popular in the 17th century (replacing voices with instruments), the programme has been entitled ‘Secret History’ because the contemporary performance focuses rather on the pristine, flawless version of the works and the attempt to recreate it. John Potter and the accompanying artists were inspired by later English sources, although they did not contain works that make up this repertoire. Already after the release of the record, the musicians decided to entitle this project Alternative History and use this name as identifying the group in the future.
