Sound icons of the Linnamuusikud ensemble

The Linnamuusikud ensemble has many supporters in Poland – in absolute numbers probably more than in their own homeland. Nearly a decade ago, they created a huge crowd of loyal fans in Poland, giving unforgettable concerts that ignited the imagination of Polish artists concerned with sacred and folk music for many years. They proved that ‘folkloric’ does not mean rough or without any musical quality, that folk art can use the same technique as high art. The musicians of Linnamuusikud extended our understanding of sacred music, they enchanted us with the extraordinary spirit and inimitable Nordic climate. They took us on a journey beyond our western patterns and ideas to the land of beauty unspoiled by borrowings and musical trivialities.

We have had to live through memories over the past years because the group suspended their activities. Finally, the year 2017 came with the Cracow Extraordinary Music Festival and the Song of Our Roots Festival in Jarosław, and the history of the ensemble could add another chapter. These two last year’s concerts of Linnamuusikud in Poland were not only a sentimental journey, but above all a proof that the ensemble is doing well and is still able to surprise and delight.

We are happy that we can contribute to the development of Linnamuusikud this year by organizing their next concert in Poland. The programme includes Estonian rune songs and Estonian folk chorale as well as fragments of a mass by Guilliaum de Machaut and Adrian Willaert.

The concert is under the honorary patronage of the President of the City of Rzeszów and the media patrons are TVP Rzeszów, Radio Via and

Co-financed from the budget of the City of Rzeszów
