Vocal workshops

Musica Divina is not only a series of concerts, but also a time to improve practical vocal skills under the guidance of outstanding artists. This year’s classes for 30 people will be conducted by Frédéric Tavernier-Vellas together with Jean-Etienne Langianni.

Who can take part?

All eager singers who are able to work intensively on a demanding repertoire are welcome to take part in the workshops. As Frédéric himself says: openness is more important than advanced vocal skills.

What does the price of the workshops cover?

The cost of participation in the whole workshops is PLN 200 per person. The price includes vocal lessons and auxiliary materials. You can book accommodation through us in one of the hostels located within the Planty [maximum 10 minutes’ walk to the place of classes]. The cost of one night’s lodging with breakfast is PLN 65 per person.

What repertoire will we work on?

The workshop repertoire includes a real mosaic of songs of different styles and origins. Singing from the Spanish, Mozarabic, Corsican, Byzantine, Carthusian and other traditions.

When and where will the workshops take place? What will my day look like?

The classes will take place from 9th to 14th August (6 hours a day) in the Italian Hall of the Franciscan Fathers’ monastery at Franciszkańska Street.
On a festival day, there will be plenty of time for common prayer: we will begin each day with Morning Prayer at 8:00 and end with a Holy Mass at 18.00 in the basilica of the Franciscan Fathers with the participation of the leading artists. The Holy Mass will be open to all festival guests and the faithful willing to come.

Is it necessary to be able to read music notes with voice in order to take part in the workshops?

Reading notes with your voice will certainly help and facilitate participation in the workshops, but it is not necessary. The work will be carried out using sources and notations that will have to be treated intuitively and memorized.

Will lessons with masters be crowned with a concert?

The aim of the week’s work under the supervision of artists is singing during the final concert of the Festival in St. Mary’s Basilica, 14th August, after the Mass at 18.00. The formula of the concert assumes the participation of workshop attenders. Details of the concert’s repertoire will be determined during the course.
